Yes, I have returned. Well, no, I never left really. I decided to become a lurker here while I focused more on making Delaware Liberal the best damn political blog in Delaware, and one of the best 50 state blogs out there. With family, job and keeping a state blog running keeping my plate full, you'll understand why commenting and fighting with you all here fell by the wayside.
It happens to all of us. Daily Kos has been around for 100 years in internet terms. Whole generations of users have come and go. I have lost track at what UID # we are currently at, but my guess is we are approaching 300,000, if we haven't already passed it.
That is a lot of friends and comrades to know.
The way I have done it in the past was through community diaries, like "Got a Happy Story" and Bill in Portland Maine's Cheers and Jeers, and through the Daily Kos Roll Call. I think the first roll call I posted was way back in the last internet century, in 2003. It is just an optional "get to know your community" diary. And in the hot angry days of August, when we progressives and Democrats have been bickering amongst ourselves far too often, I think it is time to get to know our community again.
So here goes.
First, please recommend this diary so that as many Kossacks as possible can participate.
Second, in the comments below, and only if you are willing, please post a comment containing the following information:
Your Age
Your Gender
Your town, city, state of residence
The college or university you attended or graduated from (if any)
Your occupation
A link to a local blog that you visit
Your Daily Kos User ID
To find your UID, find a previous comment of yours on your comment page. Hover your mouse cursor above your username, and in the status bar on the bottom left of your screen should appear the number.
Remember, this is completely voluntary. If want to participate but do not want to give out any of the details above, that is fine too. And be sure to vote in the poll below as to what region of the country or world you live in. And don't worry about my geographical designations, for it is virtually guaranteed you will disagree with the region I label you as. Indeed, in the past some have were "concerned" with my labeling Alaska and Hawaii as "The Freak States" (an nod to a Simpsons joke). Don't worry about it.
Thanks so very much!
