Andres Iniesta struck a dramatic winner late in extra time to give Spain World Cup glory for the first time but condemned the Netherlands to their third defeat in a final.
Iniesta drilled his left-foot strike across goal - but the Dutch were incensed after referee Howard Webb had failed to award their side a corner moments earlier when a free-kick took a sizeable deflection off Cesc Fabregas.

Spain needed this. If ever a country required a shot in the arm it is Spain, a nation that recently woke up to the fact that it has been living way beyond its means, with four million unemployed and the prospect of a double-dip recession. Psychologically the value of this victory is incalculable.

Six weeks after the deadly takeover of the Mavi Marmara, Israel's naval blockade of Gaza faces its next challenge as another aid ship has set off with its sights on reaching the Palestinian port.
The Amalthea, sailing under a Moldovan flag, left Greece on Saturday carrying 2,000 tons of food, medicine and other supplies in a mission organized by the Gaddafi International Development Foundation, a charity headed by Seif Islam, son of Libyan ruler Moammar Kadafi.
Twin blasts in Uganda capital Kampala kill at least 50

At least 50 people, including an American, have been killed in twin blast in the Ugandan capital Kampala.
It is not known what caused the blasts, which police said went off at a rugby club and at a restaurant as football fans watched the World Cup final.
Six months on, Haiti earthquake victims wait for billions in aid

The reconstruction of Haiti has virtually ground to a halt, six months after a devastating earthquake killed 230,000 people and made 1.5 million more homeless in the most impoverished country in the Americas.
Despite pledges of $5.3bn from the international community over the next two years to rebuild Haiti's ruined infrastructure, only a tiny fraction has so far been delivered, as aid agencies and donor countries complain that Haiti's government has not provided the necessary blueprint for recovery.
