For example, the military linguists section which was gutted by gay expulsion:
SAN FRANCISCO — The number of Arabic linguists discharged from the military for violating its "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy is higher than previously reported, according to records obtained by a research group.
The group contends the records show that the military — at a time when it and U.S. intelligence agencies don’t have enough Arabic speakers — is putting its anti-gay stance ahead of national security.
Between 1998 and 2004, the military discharged 20 Arabic and six Farsi speakers, according to Department of Defense data obtained by the Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military under a Freedom of Information Act request.

From a Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan hearing in August of 2009:
Linguist Support Services
The Aug. 12 hearing of the Commission on Wartime Contracting considered a case study in contracting and subcontracting: the five-year, nearly $5 billion Translation and Interpretation Management Services contract that supports American operations in Iraq. The contract is between the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) and prime contractor Global Linguist Solutions (GLS). GLS in turn has subcontracted work to Northrop Grumman, L-3 Communications, and other vendors.
"The contract with GLS also involves two large, competing bidders — one of whom protested the Army's contract award — that became subcontractors to the winner," said Commission Co-Chair Michael L. Thibault. "Contractual arrangements like this are in compliance with federal rules, but they need to be evaluated to determine if the practice results in substantially increased contract cost with minimal added value."

OK, hand me the damned tinfoil hat. But I've been wondering why the hades in the 21st century when every advanced nation has integrated gays and lesbians into their military, why the United States has stubbornly nailed its ass in the 19th century (if not earlier).
And, what would one find out if one studied the various hearings held by CWC and extrapolated information on gay expulsion in related departments of the military.
And, my goodness, a $5 billion dollar contract in Iraq (where we're supposed to be moving our people out) just 'cuz a sizable number of gays were kicked out of the military.
Damned handy, I say.
And, an interesting coincidence.
If we strafe our military and its support units by yanking possibly ten per cent of its personnel through discrimination -- more opportunities for war profiteering.
