We need every bit of your help here in Massachusetts leading up to the Special Election next Tuesday January 19th. This race has now become "tea bag"/right-wing central with every right wing group imaginable flocking to the state either virtually or face-to-face to push their agenda. Martha Coakley, our excellent Attorney General, is fighting to win the seat that was held for 47 years by Teddy Kennedy. The loss of this seat will be a devastating blow to the chances for Democrats to hang on to their majorities in both houses this year and do anything productive in the mean time.
I know that there are all kinds of problems with the health care bill(s), the Coakley campaign, the Obama Administration, and the Democratic leadership. But this is a moment for unity, to help pull ourselves together again and help elect a progressive woman to the US Senate. Martha supports the issues that are near and dear to many on this site: health care reform with a strong public option, opposition to an escalation in Afghanistan, freedom of choice, human rights and the Geneva Convention. Her opponent is on the wrong side of every one of them. First step is to contribute. Here is an account on MarthaCoakley.comthat is set aside for just Daily Kos participants.
Here is the latest information from Rasmussen on their poll at one point released today.
Here is information on the Republican candidates fundraising surge, claiming over $1 Million in one dayin one day.
Finally, I emailed a couple hundred people in my town to get them mobilized and here is a response I received about the pro-life calls going into the Commonwealth.
"Your email is very timely. I got the most annoying phone call today from an automated service. It sounded like a poll, but one question went something like,"Like you, Scott Brown opposes federal funding for abortions. Martha Coakley supports spending federal money on abortion. Does this information make you more likely to vote for Scott Brown?" Then the machine had the gall to claim they were not paid for by Brown or a PAC.
What it does, is make me want to show my support for Martha Coakley.
Did you say you have lawn signs? I'd be glad to have one. I also have room for a bumper sticker for my car if you have any of those."
We can still put a hurt on the Republicans in this one by working hard and contributing until it hurts. Here is the Martha Coakleyhome page so you can get more information on this terrific woman and this cause.
Thanks for your help Kossacks. Let’s Go.
