I'm getting a bit annoyed right now. I know for many of you, that is a 'who cares' sorta thing, and for some it's amusing. But the day before the special election, and the site is being spammed left and right with 'Coakley's going to lose' diaries, and they're all either A) pointless, B) really pointless, or C) outright trollish.
Votes have not been cast. I don't care which poll shows disaffected voters, I don't care which pundit or political analyst has decided that Brown is going to win. Telling us that right now serves no useful purpose.
You want to get your prediction in so you can say 'I told you so' on Wednesday? Fine, whatever. But it's totally pointless. What, you think the President is magically going to become [more/less] liberal simply because you posted a diary about Coakley? You think Coakley is going to drop out?
Or, you're just pissed, and feel the need to blame [Coakley/the 'left'] for her loss?
Why now? She hasn't lost, she very well may not lose. Then how stupid will your diary look?
The ONLY purpose such diaries serve is antagonizing other Kossacks and setting Kossack against Kossack. Either you're blaming Coakley, which will irritate the poeple who think she's a decent candidate, or you're blaming folks on 'the left' which will most assuredly irritate 'the left', the vast majority of whom want her to win. (And yes, that includes people over at FDL, whom I could really care less about, but who are being smeared by a 'nutpicking diary' as being a pack of Brown fans. Just like here, some idiots are posting they want Brown to win over there.)
You want to 'give the Dem Party a wake up call'? A) Not the time for it, and B) The Dem Party is notorious for misreading such wake-up calls. They do NOT catch the signal that they need to swing left. They always follow the idiot MSM advice that a loss means that secretly voters want them to be Republicans. I know it's stupid, but they always decide it means voters would vote for them if they were Republican-lite.
You want to blame the people who want to give such a wake-up call? Great, fine, only just like them, you're working against party interests by helping lose their votes permanently. Think they're idiots, but don't go around gloating over how stupid they are, and uprating every comment calling them names. That's not the way to get their votes in November.
So no matter which 'side' of the pie wars you've been on, A) 'Coakley blame diaries' are not only not helpful, they're downright harmful, and B) the namecalling is also not helpful in the least.
Now go ahead and trash me in the comments, but for the love of all that's holy, enough with the Coakley's going to lose and it's all (X)'s fault diaries.
Update (h/t teacherken) It's been noted that MA does, of course, have absentee balloting and that some such ballots have indeed been collected in advance. But how good is a rant that's factually correct?
