This will be a short diary-- as are many on the recommended list tonight. The upset in Mass feels like a period at the end of a long dreary sentence, and I think we feel kicked around by those we put in office.
To Save Them, We Must Fight Them. The Dems in office are not great, but they are what we have. But they must fear losing our support. The upset tonight might just be the first in a series of warning flares we can shoot into the air. This is not a message to Obama or DLC or any of them. This is a message to us-- and to the networks we are part of.
They are taking us for granted- and that is why they are losing. And we need to wake them up.
Liberal Bloggers, MoveOn.Org, SEIU, DFA, Sierra Club, Bold Progressives-- now is the moment to stand up in anger at centrist policies coming out of Washington. They might sense our annoyance, but the liberal networks and netroots need to shout in one voice-- Enough!
We know why we are unhappy with the Dems in office --- Failure to go after Wall Street, the surge in Afghanistan, Van Jones, zero action on Gay Rights, Bush-Era Civil Liberties, Tepid Actions at the Environmental Summits, Failure to stand up for the public option, or to really explicate the moral imperative of real reform--- and now it is time to shout that from the rooftops.
It is time for the groups above to launch a blistering attack from the left on the Dems. A) This will remind the country that that there are no hard left wingers in this administration. B) The Democrats must fear losing their active-base. We may not be the largest segment of the voting base, but we certainly constitute a bulk of the volunteers and donors.
The organizations above will listen to us. Don't call your senator, don't call the white house. Call and email MoveOn and DFA and Bold Progressives-- tell them the Dems must be afraid to lose us, and must be afraid that they can loose us.
We are the active-base.
We need to act like it.
