I don't belong to any organized party- I'm a Democrat!
Will Rogers (1935)
Obama and the Democratic party have somehow managed to snatch defeat out of last year's victory. What a surprise!
But this is mostly Obama's fault because:
- He foolishly subcontracted health care reform to the house and the Senate instead of offering them his own bill. And if Obama really wasn't sure about what he wanted then he should have appointed a by partisan commission on Health Care reform.
- He's foolishly delayed our departure from Iraq until the end of 2011 (3 years after his inauguration)instead of two years (just before midterm elections in 2010). This is good for Obama but certainly not good for Democrats running in 2010.
- He took way too long to make his decision of Afghanistan which made him look like an indecisive leader.
- He's taken way to long to make a decision on the future of our space program. Already folks in Florida are loosing their jobs (a critical state in the 2012 election) from NASA layoffs. Ironically,NASA is one of the few Federal programs that actually creates more wealth than it consumes.
- He shut down the Yucca Mt. repository for spent nuclear fuel, as he should have, but he still has not appointed the blue ribbon commission to decide what we should do with spent fuel (recycle?, temporary storage?). What is he waiting for? We need to move rapidly from a fossil fuel economy towards a nuclear and renewable energy economy if we going to save this planet and become energy independent.
- Obama foolishly believed that the Republicans would be bipartisan. Hopefully, he now understands where they're really coming from.
President Obama needs to take charge of his own political agenda and not depend on the Democratic leadership to do this. And he needs to start being a leader by being more decisive and by proposing his own specific legislation-- not just depend on the so called geniuses in the congress! There's a very good reason why the Senate and the House have such low ratings from the general public. And they need his leadership!
