If this has already been diaried, I will gladly delete.
Paul Krugman has written what is, as far as I know, his first blog post on President Obama's spending freeze notion.
It’s appalling on every level.
Krugman says the freeze is "bad-run fiscal policy," that it improperly focusses on "small change," and that it takes away a needed focus on getting a decent health care bill passed.
And it’s a betrayal of everything Obama’s supporters thought they were working for. Just like that, Obama has embraced and validated the Republican world-view — and more specifically, he has embraced the policy ideas of the man he defeated in 2008. A correspondent writes, "I feel like an idiot for supporting this guy."
While Krugman says he clings to a "fantasy" that the President will actually take some bold action to help the economy (like an employment tax credit, he ends his blog post with this:
Right now, this looks like pure disaster.
Can we progressives, liberals - whatever one wants to call us - just get one good day this week? Something? Anything?
