This Tuesday is precinct caucus night in Minnesota. It’s the first step in the process leading to state conventions, a primary, and finally the election next fall. At the caucuses, resolutions are voted on for inclusion in the party platform and action agenda. Here’s my suggested resolution:
WHEREAS corporations are persons;
WHEREAS money is equivalent to speech;
WHEREAS corporations ought to have influence in the Judicial branch equal to their influence in the Legislative and Executive branches of government;
WHEREAS corporate litigants in the Judiciary, while numerous and well-funded, do not give corporations their just and proper influence within that branch of government;
BE IT RESOLVED: The DFL/GOP/Greens/Independents support(s) corporations becoming eligible for appointment to the Supreme Court, with their votes, upon appointment, being proportional to their net financial worth as compared to the net financial worth of the individual members of said court.
