Well, so they arrested a few missionaries from Idaho for trying to get kids out of Haiti. What is interesting about this story is that it is a lot more common than people think, just not all the kids get taken to an airport. In Thailand for years, white missionaries decide that being white and being missionary from the "WEST" makes them so much more fit to OWN Akha children than let them be with their own parents.
Oh yes, we know all the scare tactics, like "saving them from the 'dangers' of prostitution, poverty, growing up in a jungle, being Akha, speaking Akha, dressing Akha and dating Akha. But really its just about owning the kids and making money off of them.
Well, we are going to own Kristi Halvorson of Rotary 5100 OR/WA when this is over. We spent two years informing Rotary Intl that they shouldn't be sponsoring David Stevenson, a misplaced Australian, looking for Aboriginal kids to take away in Thailand. Finally they pulled the project off the Rotary Intl. website. Kristi Halvorson of Lake No Negro, Oregon (that is what they call Lake Oswego, No negros are allowed the story goes) was the person pushing the support. When Rotary pulled out, we couldn't even get Kristi to talk to us about what was wrong with what she was pushing.
But now Kristi is the Gov. of Rotary District 5100 and guess what, David Stevenson is right back on the Rotary websites.
Well, we have a word for Kristi, and its on Youtube.

This video was made at CGT by White Tara Productions in Italy.
Rotary has pumped tens of thousands of dollars to fund this guy taking away Akha kids. Now they are right back at it.
Since Rotary is intentionally promoting the removal of kids and ignoring our warnings about the damage it does, they are in for the long haul.
Girls getting raped at the local school makes David anxious, he just needs more Rotary money to build a slew of more buildings to take more kids. Well maybe Rotary should be funding kids to be with their own parents?

"The new project (there always IS one, isn’t there?) consists of 14 primary school classrooms to be built on land near the new playground. The land was purchased by the Singapore RC, and now all David has to do is raise $14K for each classroom. He’s hoping I’ll go back and raise at least enough for one classroom. Hmmmm. Any ideas? He is very anxious to get this done because an Akha girl (age 12) and a Lisue girl were raped by a teacher at the local elementary school, and David is very anxious to pull all his kids out of that school. The teacher has a history of this at other schools and was shuffled off to this school by another jurisdiction. The school is protecting the teacher and claims it was the girls’ fault. Charges were filed, but the police released him immediately and he is back teaching at the same school. Luckily, nothing like this has happened at the HS, and all is going well there."
