Predator Drones are used to murder and assasinate. This is a very disturbing article I read in the New Yorker: http://www.newyorker.com/...
I don't see how people can reconcile a willingness to kill without due process, kill hundreds of women/children because they were in the area ... and then be all up in arms because we kept some prisoners in Gitmo without due process? I guess if they are dead (or we want them dead) they are enemy combatants, but if they are alive they are criminals?
And this is driving more people to AQ than Gitmo is -- it is close and personal to them.
I think we have to decide once and for all -- is this a war or a bunch of criminals?
If it is a bunch of criminals we should stop these drone attacks immediately. You don't kill suspected criminals without due process.
If they are enemy combatants in a war, we need to kill or capture them as needed. When we capture them, we should hold them as long as the war continues, without due process. We should interogate them. Everything short of torture (which in my mind has to be something that causes permanent harm -- otherwise anything could be called torture. Like listening to our kids music :-) ).
What we cannot do is run around feigning outrage over Gitmo and stand by passively approving the murder and assasination we are doing with predator drones.
