The MSM and the masses will not make a connection to the terrible destruction on the Gulf Coast and the negligence of this administration. I have yet to hear the MSM ask the tough questions. You must do it for them. Write letters to the editor to your local paper about Bush's negligence. DWCG now has a great diary up with references to the culpability that you can use as talking points. That diary inspired me to write my letter to the editor which follows. Y'all are among the smartest, most articulate people I know, so please do it.
My letter:
A month ago, I was in the beautiful city of New Orleans. It is mind boggling that today, that city is in tatters. I am sad, but mostly angry.
In 2001, FEMA identified a New Orleans flood as one of the top three likely catastrophic emergencies in the U.S. for which we should prepare. New Orleans is below sea level, and levees protect the city from Lake Pontchartrain. In 2001, the Army Corp of Engineers identified the 17th St. levee as one that would be breached by a flood.
So, what happened to the money that was needed to repair the levee? The money, part of the Homeland Security budget, was used to fight the war in Iraq. And where is the Louisiana National Guard and their equipment to help in this national emergency? In Iraq, of course, fighting the terrorists there, so we don't have to fight them here. And where was our president while the Gulf Coast drowned? He was holding photo ops with invited supporters in Rancho Mirage, AZ and Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
When will Americans wake up to the fact that Nero is fiddling, while Rome burns.
My letter goes to the AZ Daily Star.
