Like a moth drawn to the flame, Republican donors can't resist the crazy:
Former Nevada state Assemblywoman Sharron Angle (R) raised an eye-popping $14 million between July 1 and Sept. 30 for her challenge to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D), a stunning number that far eclipses the cash-collection totals of other prominent candidates seeking Senate seats next month.
No word yet on how much of that total came from big donors and how much came from small donors, but one thing is clear: Republicans know the only chance they have of electing someone as wacky as Sharron Angle is by giving her a ton of money to remake her image -- and they are happy to do just that.
Of course, the problem they face is that for all the money they've given her, Angle still trails Harry Reid. The latest: PPP shows Reid up by two over Angle, 47-45. So while the $14 million they've donated is probably keeping her in the game, it hasn't been a secret sauce that suddenly makes her palatable to the people of Nevada.
