My initial thoughts about current political issues.
My generation grew up being taught to believe in equality and the courage to stand up for what's right if you see something happening that's wrong. we know that idealism and reality are 2 different things but yet we continue to believe that idealism is possible(but difficult to achieve)
To me personally, one of the most troubling things is the tea party movement(if u can call it that) it's troubling not because of what it stands for:I don't think you can find anyone of any political persuasion who doesn't agree with their stated beliefs. the problem comes from when you look at what's happening on the ground. the people at these rallies and who are on these websites are not comprised of every section of the american public but rather of people from the baby boom generation, almost entirely white and typically people who admittedly did not follow politics until relatively recently.
there is nothing wrong with not following politics. The american political system can be so frustrating that it's healthy to disconnect and pay attention to other stuff. the problem is that when one hasn't been paying attention to the political scene, when you come back to it, you're most likely to have a reaction that isn't fully informed on the history of the issue. it's like watching a soap opera and then not watching it for months. when you tune in again, the story will have drastically moved on so that your prior knowledge isn't applicable to the current scenario.
