Fear of physical attack - and worse - has become a firmly established component of the non-rightwing American's political consciousness. This fact, coupled with promises of intimidation at the polls on November 2nd (from questioning to photographing to?) most likely means that the number of non-rightwingers who could be counted on to go to the polls 'fired up' stands in real danger of being decreased by the wish to avoid, for example, being 'fired upon' by some delusional, gun-toting nutcase aiming for an immortalizing spot on the Fox news ticker who's quite willing to tread on the Constitution in order to achieve it.
Could the fast-approaching midterm elections be seen as a kind of Armageddon? Not the kind hawked and hoped-for by some in connection with religion: Instead of a battle between 'right and wrong', a battle over the 'right to wrong'? A coming conflict staunchly supported by the often bated-breathed msm punditry, whose round the clock glowing repetitions and slanted inflections are helping to transform outrageous rightwing violent acts and totally unacceptable threats of hassling at the polls into reports as inescapably matter-of-fact as weather reports of approaching storms...
As of now we have apparently reached the point where simply drinking coffee at a Cantor event evokes a mash-down to the pavement amid false accusations of violence that ends with arrest...
To reiterate: Fear of physical attack is not a reality for rightwing voters - regardless of the attempt to fabricate that reality from, for example, a couple of people calling themselves New Panthers, Black, of course. One has the distinct impression that violence from the left would be received by the far right like manna descending to bless the acts they've already committed as well as those they'd subsequently rush to commit - most likely on an ever increasing scale - in 'self-defense'.
As American suffrage involves not only the 'right' but also the 'opportunity' to cast one's vote, this question is Open For Comments: How should American citizens respond to this war and rumors of impending war to be waged upon their voting process at the polls on November 2nd? By turning the other cheek, offering the passive resistance of Gandhi, hoping for the best - or...?
