This is not the usual sort of diary I've posted about the Brown campaign, but someone I know came up with an excellent idea yesterday and I want to see if anyone out there knows how to put it into practice.
I should emphasize: I volunteer for the Brown campaign but cannot speak for it officially. I'm just freelancing here.
As many of you know, Jerry Brown has so far prevailed in two debates with Meg Whitman and is going to do so again a week from today. But many voters haven't seen the debates -- especially the second, which was broadcast only on Spanish-language television and is known only for a few bit excerpted by the media.
I'd like to get these debates -- or at least a highlight reel -- in the hands of more voters.
I know that this has a -- do people even get this reference anymore? -- an Andy Hardy style "let's put on a show" aspect to it, but I think that it's a good enough idea to explore. Could people make up a DVD with highlights of the debates -- or even the full debates -- and get it out to voters?
Someone out there, I'm guessing, knows how to do this. It would involve getting the debate footage (which I know has been available in streaming format, but not otherwise) and burning it; making a "highlight reel" would also obviously require editing. (I'd suggest what to include in the reel.)
Jerry Brown showed his worthiness in these debates and I think that the more people see them -- say, at house parties? -- the better he'll do. I don't think that Meg Whitman would be sending out copies of the debates! So if you know how to do this, can teach how to do this, or are willing to do this, please let me know and maybe we can make it happen!
