My father was a survivor of the attack on pearl harbor. He died
8 months after my mom died of cancer in 2001.
My uncle was the lead tank commander for Patton's army. He was
the first american soldier to actually walk into a nazi concentration
camp at the end of the war. His tank came upon the stench of the camp.
They drove their tanks to the outer boundaries of the camp and could
not believe their eyes. They were told NOT to move into the camp.
They were told not to offer aid to anyone inside the camp.
However....after seeing the horrendous conditions they drove one
tank thru the fence and could not believe their own eyes.
He's spoken in documentaries..been written about in books...
these 2 were incredible examples of the 'GREATEST GENERATION'
Had they both lived to see our nation today they would be embarrassed.
Had they lived to see what our nation has become...they would be
enraged.
Because both of them spent the rest of their lives working to make
life better for their families.
My uncle and grandfather droves truckloads of potatoes across the
midwest to pay the bills. My grandfather was carrying a load
of potatoes up thru arkansas. The truck turned over and the entire
load spilled over the side of the road. The money he was making
on this trip was to pay for his daughters wedding dress. Within
hours, families memeber were helping put the potatoes back on the
truck so they could get to the produce company in time to get
the money to pay for the dress.
My father and mother worked 18 grueling hours starting a small
restaurant that was bought from a cousin. As kids, me and my
sister worked along with our cousins and friends to keep the
restaurant open and to pay our bills. It was not an optional
thing...it was mandatory for us at the age of 8 to be working
14 hours a day at our family restaurant.
When they both retired, my uncle was able to use his VA benefits
and his social security and medicare benefits for badly needed
medical care and operations after a serious auto accident.
My parents retired with their social security check and my mom
was able via medicare to live 11 years after her first cancer
diagnosis.
After she passed...my dad was heartbroken and after finding out
that he needed 5 days of dialysis a week gave up and passed away.
Had both these men been alive today they would be shocked by what
this country has come to.
Selfishness...greed....arrogance....corruption....a society that
has fallen apart. They would probably say that this was not the
nation they fought for and worked for.
I read the paper and hear people wanting to run this country
talking of ending social security...doing away with medicare..
that helping another person in dire straights was unconstitutional.
That helping someone in need was not the american way...that it's
every man for himself.
If they were alive today...they would have said no its not!
On the battlefield you depended on the soldier next to you to
help you...to protect you...to cover you....and our society should
not be any different.
My generation has taken everything they built and tried to destroy
it. The greed of the wall street and bankers showed that "we are not
a nation anymore"...get what you can ...forget the poor people who will
suffer from your actions. And they took this incredible country
down the tubes.
This is not the nation that my uncle and dad and millions of other
brave men and women fought to protect. It's a nation of "me/me/me"...
and "Im in this for myself".
We will never let the safety net or the feeling of helping others
end. We will never let those partisan politicians who are only in
the game for themselves dictate to us that we are not "one"
nation.
This country was built as the greatest nation in history.
We continue to have the greatest education system in the world.
We will continue to show our love for those who need help...
We will continue to make sure that those who built this nation
get to live out their senior years in dignity.
We will continue to provide life saving medical care to those
who might otherwise not be able to afford it.
THAT IS WHAT THE GREATEST GENERATION IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD WORKED
AND FOUGHT FOR AND NO BABY BOOMERS...GEN X....ETC. IS GOING TO
TAKE THAT AWAY FROM US OR ANYONE IN THIS NATION.
ITS FOR THAT REASON WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FIGHT TODAY AND
PAST NOV. 3 TO KEEP AMERICA GREAT.
OUR GREATEST DAYS LIE AHEAD...AND NOONE NAMED ANGLE////MCDONELL/
BROWN///BOEHNER//ETC. WILL TAKE THAT AWAY.
GOD BLESS THE GREATEST GENERATION!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
