This will not be a long dairy. It is time for bed. Work comes early, so I'll let the articles to the talking. It is just nice to see, for the first time, that it appears as though REPUBLICAN senators may be coming on board to vote for repeal of DADT.
When reading this, keep in mind, these are REPUBLICAN senators! ... Just let that simmer in your mind for a moment. If we can get 4 Republican senators, then we just might be at that tipping point. This just might get done!
First there is the usual suspect of Collins and then throw in Lugar...
On Thursday, Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., told reporters that he believes at least two Republicans will side with repeal advocates when the issue is brought back up for a vote — but with conditions.
Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Dick Lugar of Indiana have pledged to him in private that they’ll vote to allow debate to continue on the defense authorization bill, which includes the repeal measure, “so long as there is a fair and open amendment process,” he said.
Then Murkowski ...
...we are a different sort of warfare there aren’t trenches there aren’t fox holes anymore, I would not vote against a bill that had that repeal in it.
Then maybe the biggest surprise ... our good ole friend John Ensign of Nevada ... (hey, a vote is a vote!)...
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) wants to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and intends to vote in favor of moving forward with defense budget legislation containing a provision that would end the law, according to the Stonewall Democratic Club of Southern Nevada.
I'm hopeful that this will happen. But tonight I'm just thinking about how far we've come as a nation when 4 Republican senators are/may be on board to vote for equality in the military. We have a long ways to go, but this is a hopeful sign in my mind as I lay me down to sleep tonight.
