The good news is that all the TV pundits will have job security for the next two years.
The other news is that what’s going downhill will continue to go down while what was going up will most likely stop in its tracks.
The only government spending that is now insured is the military budget.
The rich will get richer and the poor will have to start reading up on how to cook cats and dogs.
We can expect congressional witch hunts, tax breaks for those who don’t need them and a half assed impeachment movement that will not be thwarted by facts.
With Boehner as Speaker of the House promising no compromise, the art of politics will be restricted to the services of unskilled labor.
The bully boys of pseudo financial responsibility will very likely bring the debt ceiling crashing down on our heads and the rest of the world in the apartment upstairs with it.
Make no mistake, the Democrats blew it. There was no doubt that this would be a tough election and that the incumbents would take a traditional midterm drubbing but their complacency in accepting it has only made it worse.
Obama overestimated his charisma and his churlishness over the ‘enthusiasm gap" was not only "too little too late" but out of character and out of line. As a moderate he truly believed he could entice the right into bipartisan co-operation but that was pipe dream he should never have inhaled. All the voters saw were his efforts to appease the opposition, but not one drop of blood in their defense, not one drop of sweat on their behalf, not one tear of frustration in failing them.
Despite their posturing, the historical truth is that Republicans have always been worse for the economy than Democrats. They just lie better than the Democrats.
The sad thing is the Democrats didn’t have to lie if only they had told the truth, but they couldn’t be bothered to defend themselves and now it’s too late.
Boss Tweed said that, "The only good politician is one that stays bought." The Democrats got that all backward and acted like it was they who had purchased the voters, then they complained that the dog they had gotten on the cheap at the pound wasn’t housebroken.
I like Obama. I have always preferred smart people over dumb ones. Even if they don’t agree with me, at least they do so because they have reasons, not because they’re just stubborn and unimaginative. No matter how smart you are though, you can still make mistakes and if you can’t admit them, you will be doomed to repeat them.
The only hope for Obama in the next presidential election will be if the Republicans screw things up so much that voters will blame them instead of him.
As for the rest of us, if you are extremely supple you can bend over backwards and kiss your wallet goodbye.
