I would love to give a pep talk about how to deal with losses, but I simply don't have the energy nor the desire. Besides, when people are depressed and angry, they tend to shoot the messenger.
Nah, I just want to leave a message to all those who want to blame the losses of the House majority and a few Senate seats on everything from Obama to bad campaigning, to fluoridated water. Chill out. Politics is a rough sport. I've witnessed many changes of government. The nation survived the worst of them, they will survive tonight's results.
Usually, when a football team gets beat before a bye-week, the coach tells his team to take a break from football for a couple of days. Go home, reenergize the jets. Think about family and friends. Go to a movie, the museum. I think the country needs some peace and a break from all the anger, all the division, all the bullshit.
Over the next couple of months, the blogosphere, all the cable network political claptrap will analyze the shit out of this election. Wouldn't it be great if no one listened? Think about it. A time that people tell the experts "we're not listening today. We have our own lives to deal with. You are not what I am dealing with today."
We lost the House, we kept a smaller majority in the Senate. What lessons did we draw from that result? Well, for at least the next couple of months, I don't give a shit. I'm going to play with the grandkids, watch football and basketball. There is life beyond politics, and if the rest of you are smart, you will move on with your lives as well.
