I was flipping through the channels this morning and happened to hit Fox News along the way - at the perfect time.
There was a commercial - something new I think - because only a handful of people have "liked" it on Facebook as of now.
The latest Fox/Republican/Corporation scheme appears to be this new site: OweNo.com
What is OweNo.com? It is a website against the debt faced by the good ole US of A. Obviously, this site is trillions of dollars and several administrations too late, but we can't fault them for trying.
Founded by the Peter J. Peterson foundation, OweNo.com seems to be another banker/GOP/corporate scam:
From OweNo.com:
The Peter G. Peterson Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan organization established by Pete Peterson – businessman, philanthropist, and former U.S. Secretary of Commerce – dedicated to raising awareness about America’s fiscal challenges and accelerating action on them. The OweNo campaign is one of several awareness and consensus-building projects spearheaded by the foundation.
What the above passage doesn't mention (which we could all figure out through context clues) is that Peterson is a staunch conservative.
From Wiki:
Peter G. Peterson (born June 5, 1926) is an American businessman, investment banker, fiscal conservative, author, and politician whose most prominent political position was as United States Secretary of Commerce from February 29, 1972, to February 1, 1973 under Richard Nixon. He was the Chairman and CEO of Bell & Howell from 1963 to 1971, and Chairman and CEO of Lehman Brothers from 1973 to 1984. He was Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations until retiring on June 30, 2007, after being named chairman emeritus. He co-founded the private equity firm, the Blackstone Group. In 2008, Peterson was ranked 149th on the "Forbes 400 Richest Americans" with a net worth of $2.8 billion. In 2008, he established The Peter G. Peterson Foundation with a $1 billion endowment.
Wow, this guy is awesome. Just the kind of guy we need pushing the conversation on fiscal responsibility...a robber baron.
.
OweNo.com is also pushing a candidate - which is a cartoon creation of what Fox viewers have been conditioned to think of all Democrats as...
I couldn't embed the picture of this smiling idiot, but here's the link to his pic and some fake multimedia clips. http://oweno.com/...
Who is Hugh Jidette?
Hugh Jidette – a play on the phrase "Huge Debt" – is a fictional presidential candidate who has been created to capture the attention of the nation and bring to light the facts about our federal fiscal challenges and the threats they pose to our nation’s economic future. As his name suggests, Hugh Jidette is a satirical character, and his policy positions sound strange and unbelievable. However, all of the facts and figures that Hugh cites are entirely true (unfortunately). He and his absurd platform ironically represent the sad truth about the "status quo" and our nation’s current fiscal path. Through a humorous advertising campaign that drives home a serious message, we hope to inform millions of Americans about our fiscal challenges and engage them in calling on Washington for real solutions.
Ladies and gentlemen....Fox News...Republicans...Corporations...Bankers...
