Right now Bernie Sanders is on Rachel Maddow is making a passionate case for returning to the Clinton tax rates for the wealthiest Americans.
If the final bill extends those tax cuts, we MUST threaten to filibuster the whole damn thing.
Either we govern as economic progressives until the moment the clock runs out, or we've lost our soul.
I'm wholeheartedly in favor of filibuster reform...it's not my weapon of choice. But until it's eliminated, either side can use it.
Call the Republican bluff, Mr. President. Tax cuts for 98% of Americans or no tax cuts at all. Make them vote on it. Make them defend their position.
The Clinton years were the strongest economic years of my lifetime. There's no crisis if we return to those policies fully. In a reasonable political climate, that would be on the table. But it ain't, so let's talk about the VERY moderate alternative.
No businesses will close their doors if their CEOS have to pay a couple thousand dollars more in taxes in a year. It's the "Paris Hilton" tax.
Want to cut the deficit? Don't add 700 billion more to it over 10 years.
We have strong, smart Senators that can make those arguments. But not if we have to defend a piece of shit bill that extends all the tax cuts for ANY length of time.
