There is a diary on the rec list decrying the money spent in this election cycle, especially that which was anonymous. I agree with the analysis and the need to address the problem. But I was terribly disappointed with the comments; many were merely further examples and others simply expressed outrage.
Not that there's no place for examples of problems and expressions of outrage. These are the beginning points, but only beginnings. If they lead to corrective action, then good. If regarded as ends in themselves, useless.
For example, if the problem is money in elective politics, here's a possible solution: give each candidate a fixed amount of media time/space and let them make their best case.
I'm sure there is no shortage of good ideas among the folks on this blog. Isn't there some way to get some of them on the table, whip them into shape and figure out ways to start building support for them in the public domain?
