Tom Foley, the apparently vanquished candidate for Governor of Connecticut had a press conference this morning and all but announced that he will not concede anything, citing "voting irregularities" (GOP speak for Democrats voted), in the numbers released by Bill Finch, the mayor of Bridgeport, reported this morning and the numbers apparently given to Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz.
However, Foley is less confident than he was yesterday that when it is all said and done, he will be the Governor. Even Foley believes that Bridgeport did him in, but states that he thinks that the numbers he has and the "official unofficial numbers" from Bridgeport, don't jive. Instead of outright declaring himself the winner, he now says that the difference in the numbers would trigger the automatic recount, which is 2,000 or less votes.
Foley also said that this race has had people in state and out-of-state laughing at Connecticut. (I'm sure the 2000 vote in Florida was downright hysterical). He also hinted at going to court to have a Florida style recount of ALL the votes, unless he can get SCOTUS to stop his own recount.
Needless to say, both sides have their lawyers on the scene in both Bridgeport and Hartford and Foley think that this will take "several days" to resolve.
In a related event, a Canton police sergeant, and a State Senator, Kevin Witkos wants a multi-agency investigation of the use of the State's reverse 911 system, which was used on Tuesday night to inform Bridgeport voters that a judge had ordered the polls to remain open until 10 pm. Despite the order, about 100 votes were cast city wide after the normal 8 pm closing.
As for apparent Governor-elect Malloy, he plans to say nothing until Bysiewicz certifies the new numbers. Wise move. More when it develops.
