The House, the weakened Senate, the Sumpreme Court, the governors, and now, Olbermann. And I view Olbermann and Pelosi getting punished for doing what we wanted them to do. It's like we're getting it from all sides.
Is it time for a cultural revolution for democrats? I am not talking about tea-party left or even worse, becoming more of a conservative party. As a majority of blue dogs found out, that isn't the answer. Is it time to look at how we are doing things and do them better? Paging Dr. Dean, emergency in America, STAT. I don't think Obama is a bad president. But he needs help with turn-out and a better way forward. What the hell happened to him? Washington.
We need help and it's time we got it. When millionaires and scumbags like Armey and Rove can fundraise in the open from corporations - we've got to find an answer. I've been reading the blogs and take some cold comfort that internal fighting will fuck up the newly elected republicans in a way that should guarantee democratic majorities in the future. I know that a lot of these ass-hats will not get re-elected and will probably get replaced by true progressives. But it should have never come to this.
I moved back to this country in 1991 from Japan. It's hard to believe that 19 years later, "It's the economy, stupid" is still relevant and another president has fallen victim for ignoring that axiom. And yes, Obama is the victim here, along with all the American people who are not millionaires. While I would love a bold, progressive agenda enacted - DADT dead, Food regulation, carbon regulation, prop 19 in California, more taxes for the rich (I think anything under 45% is too generous) and a lot of other things - I would settle to have unemployment under 4% nationwide and wall street silenced from elections. And we should foreclose on a few banks that consider themselves too big, to fail.
But were not going to get any of that. What I am going to get is 2 years of bullshit and I sure as hell didn't vote for that. But I will keep voting for the democratic agenda because despite all this, democrats haven't given up hope.
I look at Nancy Pelosi and she's still fighting for a minority leader position and doesn't regret a single vote. Rachel Maddow is still on the air. Sometime in the very near future, I would love to see the following happen:
Alan Grayson replacing Tim Kaine
Howard Dean re-emerge, perhaps at the White House
Keith back on the air and completely unrepentent
Elizabeth Warren flourishing
One of the five sumpreme court justices retire and being replaced with a liberal
But I like said before, we're getting it on all sides and it should have never come to this.
