Jim DeMint said on the Hugh Hewitt radio show:
"This is bad policy, bad politics, and a bad deal for the American people," said Club President Chris Chocola in a statement. "The plan would resurrect the Death Tax, grow government, blow a hole in the deficit with unpaid-for spending, and do so without providing the permanent relief and security our economy needs to finally start hiring and growing again. Instead, Congress should pass a permanent extension of current rates, including a permanent repeal of the death tax, and drop all new spending," Chocola said. "A month ago, the American people repudiated Washington big government. It's time for both parties to finally hear that message and act on it."
Many here are not paying attention to the fact that we have to have at least some support from these people in order to govern the country.
I understand the frustration against the President. But how many of you who have studied the exact contents of the compromise and the reason for it at all dispassionately? All I seem to hear is yelling: "caving to the rich!"
This compromise is not making the Bush cuts permanent: it's a two-year extension, and in return there are a number of things progressives want, and that the country NEEDS right now: tax relief for the middle class plus an extension of unemployment benefits.
There is literally no other way to get these things done. And believe me if you all succeed in taking this President down, you will see a LOT MORE pandering to the rich coming from our new Republican overlords. Making the Bush tax cuts permanent as DeMint promises above will be the least of it.
I really don't understand what anyone expected Obama to do, throw John Boehner down an elevator shaft?!
I don't care if all the tax cuts expire, myself: I'd like to go back not just to the Clinton rates, but to the Eisenhower ones. I will welcome the opportunity to pay more taxes, provided we actually get something for it. But many will take this as a failure of the President's, when really all it is is Republican sabotage.
The Republicans want only to bring this President down, and it is entirely bizarre to see that Kossacks, who once came here to get more and better Democrats elected, are helping them.
