It’s no longer an abstract. It’s real and it hurts badly.
Millions of families, like mine, are receiving this message right before the holidays. Thanks to 42 heartless Republican Senators who are holding American families hostage.
This is an important message from the DC Office of Unemployment Compensation regarding your unemployment insurance benefits. Please read carefully. Without further action from Congress, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program ended on November 30, 2010 and the Extended Benefits (EB) program will end in the District effective December 11, 2010. Currently, there have been proposals in Congress which would extend some of the unemployment extension programs which could change your unemployment benefits in the future. At this time, it is not clear if or when Congress will act to extend these expiring programs, we are advising you to continue to certify your claim every week. Doing this will assist us in avoiding any payment delays should Congress pass legislation to continue any of these Unemployment Benefits programs. You can certify by logging into your account at www.jobs.dc.gov or by calling (202) 724-7000 or (877) 319-7346. Due to high call volume, we encourage you to call during off-peak hours, any weekday after 5 p.m., or any time on Saturday or Sunday. If Congress acts to extend these programs, the Office of Unemployment Compensation will contact you directly via phone, e-mail, and/or mail with further instruction to process your benefits, as necessary.
The debate is over for me. The president is right. Many of Nay Sayers are wrong. Say whatever you want but the damage is imminent and real. Mind you, this is not Cheney’s WMD fear mongering.
