I think this is like the 18th gazillion, millionth post that has been written about the current state of things on this haven for ideas and independent thought we call Daily Kos, or DKos, or DKeezy, or Da Kosmeister...whatever you want to or feel comfortable calling it, we can all pretty much agree that shit is kinda getting out of hand n'est pas? Follow me over the twitter jump..
So lately there's been this gloomy and overbearing cloud of negativity looming over this site. It's the battle for the ages and would be quite entertaining if it wasn't so pathetic. Democrats slinging insults at each other and cutting each other down when we are all on the same side. I guess Democrats really do it their young. A site that prides itself on free speech is no longer so because the predictable few always find a way to poke and prod the other side into the wonderful shit pie fight that has come to define this community.
Don't believe me? Don't believe people are watching? Well, let me put it this way. There are many on this site that use to glow and beam with glee when the the wingnuts over at the conservative sites used to go at each other. This would usually be followed by snarky remarks about how the idiots were eating their young and how above the fray we were. Now look at this site. This site has become the very thing that some use to laugh at. Sitting on the sideline, it has gone from funny to a all hell has broken loose. Now, I know the views of some don't reflect the entire site as a whole, but those few individuals have the loudest voices, and sitting on the sidelines, it looks like and resembles the tea partiers during the health care debate. That's what you all look like. Angry, screaming, and pathetic, and why? Have you all bothered to ask yourself that question? Why all the shouting?
I remember as a child, that trantrums, crying, and screaming got us nowhere except a belt whoopin of immense proportions. I find it perplexing because I fail to see the reason for all the shouting. Frankly, it makes the democratic or splinter party look weak.
Now this is beyond the typical differences of opinion that is typical of the big and diverse democratic tent. This is entirely different because it seems like you all are on one train heading for a cliff to the abyss. I hear all the calls of Primary Obama, or "Obama Pawned", or Such and such (krugman) nails it. Well, 1) I tend to ignore any diary with the word pawned because that automatically hints to the diary already having a preset narrative when it was written. As for the wonderful diaries about Krugman or other democratic idols of worship "nailing it", I could give two rats asses. I have come to notice on this site that, one democratic savior today, makes a devil tomorrow.
If you all haven't noticed, DKos likes likes to throw people under the bus. I find it funny in fact, because one minute this site will say "oh this poll is bias and is a shill for the repubs or corporations" and next thing you know, that same polling source is being used to make a point for what democrats or the president should do.
Look..I get it. People are angry. But anger doesn't lead to rational thoughts. WE all talk about democratic principles and how such and such has sold out, but lets be real, in politics, principles are compromised...ALWAYS! You know why? Because the other party has their own principles and if we all chose not to compromise, this country would be in a bigger shithole than it has been since 2003.
So I ask you all. Chill for a minute. Stop the group think and group shouting, you will only be ignored and are being ignored. Noone likes an angry mob. Nobody liked the tea party when they we angry. And true, the media covered them, but we are not them, nor should we try to be like them. This group think and constant undercutting on this site has to stop or we are all doomed.
Frankly, I wouldn't care much if you all continued the screaming and shit, but when there's the possibility that you all will primary the president or use your ideologic principles to have another Nader run, it raises my pisstovity meter because now it will fucking affect the life of the people who don't view themselves as the pure source of all liberal wisdom. You don't believe me. Well, last time I checked, the purity and non pragmatic voters who supported Nader only got 5 or so percent of the vote. (I thank you for George Bush by the way). Some may call this a straw man, but that's where we're headed, and I'll be dammed if we set this country towards such a path because you want to feel good about your chastity belt..
Long Update....
So I wrote this before I left for work and forgot to point out a few things. Some say this diary is condescending and patronizing. Well...yeah, that was the intent. A few mention that debate is healthy, but that's not what is happening. There does not seem to be any debate and there does not seem to be any acceptance of a different frame of thought. Yeah, I'm new to this site and posting...so feel free to put my UID down, but here's the thing. I can give a rats ass about that.
I am no fan of armchair quarterbacking. There's a reason some govern and there's a reason some make policy, and then you have the rest of us that have the pleasure of giving advice without the benefit of having to pay the price for implementing that advice.
Congress is messed up right now, the country is messed up right now. But believe it or not, there are people in office both locally and nationally that are attempting to move forward and make things better. They do not all agree, but they know that compromise is key to moving the ball. My intent was to show that all this yelling and anger has no effect. People have been screaming since before the election, and where has it gotten you. Some people want to take their ball and go home; which is fine..but don't expect to be recognized at the championship dinner after we win the title.
And yes, I brought the Nader in this to make this point...Nader had people that voted their hearts and ideologies..but guess what, those pure ideologies made up a small percentage of the turnout. People knew he had no chance of winning. But this event is hardly brought up when we talk about the What ifs! There have been a few diaries about what it would have been like if Gore had been president, yet there should be diaries of why the hell did Nader run? I guess it's all hindsight now, but what could have been if those purists would have voted for Gore? Maybe that's what we need to remind ourselves. I just think its easy to be a fan and yell from the sidelines; yet its a whole different ball game when you actually have to go to practice, lift weights, view film, visit the trainer, and rince and repeat for years and years in order to actually be in the game. It's one thing to boo your own team if they suck..it's another to throw batteries and rocks at them...Just my thoughts!
