Today is the (second attempt) first of my Will Draw for Charity events! For as many hours as I can, I'll be drawing mostly non-stop to help raise money for charity. I tried this a couple of days ago, but started it right in the middle of the afternoon rush. I'm hoping that starting early in the morning means that more people will see it.
Today's charity is Fisher House, providing wounded soldiers and their families a home away from home as they heal.
Here's how it's going to work:
For every hour that I can do a detailed caricature (see below), you pledge X dollars. Say you decide to pledge $2 an hour, and I manage 8 hours - you would then donate $16 to Fisher House.
As a side pledge, you can also pledge X dollars for every drawing I complete - in addition to my hourly color caricature, I'll be cranking out quick black and white cartoons of famous progressives based on your suggestions in the comments. I have no idea how many of these I'll be able to do, but a safe guess is 3 an hour. So if you pledge $1 per picture - not counting my hourly color one - and I average 3 an hour over 8 hours, you'd donate an additional $24 to Fisher House.
Lastly, you can make a side pledge or donation to me - I'm a disabled artist, I draw with my mouth and I live below the poverty line and consider myself a worthy cause :) - however you like. Ask me for details in email.
Email me at xlarimex(at)gmail(dot)com with your pledges so you can remain anonymous if you like and so I can keep track of all the pledges and email you when it's over with the total. You aren't sending money or anything, just declaring your pledge(s) for the day.
I'll start things off with this as my first hourly drawing. Each hour, I'll add another drawing below it. Quick cartoons will go in the comments as replies to your suggestions.

No pledges so far today, but I kind of expected that being so early in the morning. The big thing is that only two other diaries have been posted since I started, which means that this didn't scroll off the recent diaries list in a half an hour like it did last time I tried. Hopefully, we'll get a lot more eyeballs as the morning goes by. Even if you aren't in a position to donate, please consider recommending the diary so that it sticks around as long as possible and we have as much chance as we can of raising money for the soldiers. Thanks!

Still no pledges, or even any more comments or recommends since last hour. I have one person who pledged a few days ago, when I first attempted this, but beyond that no one else has joined in. I'm going to continue for at least another hour in the hopes that I'd get a few more pledges, but I'm not sure how much longer beyond that I'll go if no one else joins in. I'm chalking it up to bad timing so close to Christmas.

I'm probably going to stop at the end of this hour, since I only have two people pledging. If you haven't yet, now would be the time to start pledging so I know to continue. Otherwise I'll call it a modest success for the day.
