First things first lets get the facts straight. 53 percent of the american people want there tax cut but want the tax cut for those making over $250,000 to expire.
Another 14 percent want all the tax cuts to expire that group is filled with some real patriots.
23 percent want the tax cuts extended for everybody. but WTF do these numbers mean?
Absolutely nothing because Obama doesn't have 4 options he has 2. He can sign legislation or veto legislation he can't sign a portion of it and veto the rest.
So the real question is are you okay with your taxes going up as long as the taxes on the rich go up also?
And who will you blame if your taxes go up? Obama or the republicans?
Because its one thing to be against taxes for the rich when you have nothing to lose its another to be against them when your taxes are linked to there's.
SO I think that the argument that says a Obama veto is a win politically for Obama automatically is a dishonest one because the truth is we don't know who the American people will blame. They could blame republicans. They could blame Obama and, they could blame both of them. But I think everybody on DK knows who the media will blame it will be obama's fault.
I do think an Obama "Cave" as some would put it is just as bad to the president because his base might just abandon him over this issue.
It seems as if this is the proverbial line in the sand for many. The last straw of to many percieved "caves" or real "caves" depending on where you sitting. So I dont underestimate the power of a whole bunched of pissed off activist. Sitting at home refusing to knock on doors, just look at the last election.
I understand the frustration but Obama is faced with a truly difficult decision its not cut and dry as everybody on here seems to think.
If the question is whats best politically I think the jury is still out I dont think he could actually veto the legislation and win politcally I think he can threaten a veto and win but its almost like chicken you dont win by actually crashing into the car in front of you.
You win by acting like you are willing to crash and, just like chicken and everything else in life its a thin line between crazy and genious
But if the question isnt political but whats best for middle class families I would say the best thing is making sure there taxes dont go up the second best thing would be to make sure the rich pay their fair share. So, there taxes dont go up in the future.
he can either let every-bodies taxes go up or he can sign the legislation that congress approves and I don't see any data that says if every-bodies taxes goes up next year they will blame the republicans not Obama.
And thats gist of my argument not to absolve him of responsibility from the policy but to provide greater context to how he affects this policy.
I
