It looks like Thompson is getting very serious about making a senate run against Russ Feingold this fall. Rumors are shooting all over Wisconsin.
The latest arch piece is linked here:

Given Thompson's deep roots in the state, he's got a lot of media pull, so the continous teaser articles are indicative that he's serious, and probably waiting on polling numbers to hit some threshold before he announces, IMHO.
Here's the essential piece of the article linked above:
Thompson, 68, said today following a speech at a management conference in Madison that he is considering entering the race but he doesn’t know when he will decide.
"I’m going through a process," Thompson said. "I’m looking at the possibilities and I’m looking at where I could serve and be the biggest help to grow Wisconsin."
The filing deadline is July 13.
There are two other republican contenders in the field already, neither of them with much heft. But Thompson could change the balance of the race. As one of Feingold's fans, I'm hoping Thompson doesn't hit his polling threshold. But if he does it's going to be time to drag in the troops in Wisconsin.
I'm keeping an eye on this one.
