In his annnouncement that he would not run for re-election, Senator Bayh stated:
For some time, I have had a growing conviction that Congress is not operating as it should. There is too much partisanship and not enough progress -- too much narrow ideology and not enough practical problem-solving. Even at a time of enormous challenge, the peoples’ business is not being done.
One would expect that after making that statement, Senator Bayh would do all he can to get the peoples' business done before he leaves office. One would be mistaken. Instead of supporting efforts to use reconciliation to finish health care reform and to include a public option in the health care reform bill, Senator Bayh has announced that he doesn't support using reconciliation for either effort. Even as he leaves, Senator Bayh has decided that he will continue to be part of the problem rather than part of the solution. Thanks Senator for all your help in getting the peoples' business done.
