I'm in the process of completing my application for U.S. citizenship, and this little question jumped out at me:
Have you ever advocated (either directly or indirectly) the overthrow of any government by force or violence?
Yes, I realize that all most Americans had to do to become citizens of this great land was to be born within its borders, or be of American parentage. However, IF U.S. citizens had to take this exam to be confirmed in their citizenship, many would have said citizenship revoked.
Especially right-wingers.
Calling for regime change in Iraq and now Iran through force or violence would exempt many Faux News types from citizenship, in accordance with the above question.
This could also apply to those showing their recent support for the assassination of a top Hamas official in Dubai, being as it is that Hamas is the democratically elected governing body of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
I have also heard a number of non-citizens call for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. Do these people realize that they have disqualified themselves from ever becoming U.S. citizens?
Oh, and here is another one, especially for the teabaggers and CPAC types:
Have you ever persecuted (either directly or indirectly) any person because of race, religion, national origin, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion?
I am very grateful that these questions have to be answered by applicants wanting to become U.S. citizens. Wouldn't it be great if they had to be answered by current U.S. citizens, too?
