We ride and make it to Wash. DC and the Capital Mall about midnight the 22nd of February, 2010. Then a day north, I put up Hampton and go back for the bus. The next day we spend on the Capital Mall.
A long ride across this country, but the family is finally in Wash. DC and we have taken time to go to the Capital, to visit our Senator Merkley and also the office of Senator Leahy. The Capital is vast enough, the Mall even bigger, and we spend a couple of days walking about, visiting Museums and other buildings, stopping by the White House, pretty happy with our accomplishment despite snow, ice and bitter cold in Wash. DC.
Tomorrow I ride towards New York City. I will be at least two weeks making that distance, and both Phily and New York City have seen more snow and blizzard white outs in the last two days.
The fierce grip of icy winter refuses to let us go. We have been riding in ice and snow since Arkabutla, Mississippi in one record winter.
We look forward to arriving in New York at the UN and then attending the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues for two weeks in April at the UN, before returning to Oregon.
As cold and bitter as the weather is, it feels like it could still be a couple thousand miles to go.
