Last night, the House voted overwhelmingly to renew the Patriot Act without any reforms whatsoever. That's right. The House Democratic leadership and a huge majority of Democratic representatives renewed this unconstitutional and immoral law. Directly below the fold are the names of the representatives who voted to renew it (thanks, Irregular Times).
H/T to AndyS in Colorado at Docudharma.

I'm disappointed in my Democratic representative Allyson Schwartz for doing this. I'm disappointed in the new (and supposedly progressive) representative from California John Garamendi for doing this. I'm disappointed in the supposedly progressive challenger of Arlen Specter - that's Joe Sestak - for doing this. I'm dissapointed in the supposedly progressive Anthony Weiner for doing this.
And here's the list of people worth reelecting:

Jim of Irregular Times added:
The three sections of the Patriot Act that were extended were Section 215, authorizing government appropriation of business and library records regarding people not suspected of any criminal activity with gag orders to boot, Section 505 authorizes "national security letters" to grab information on law-abiding Americans’ private activities without probable cause of a crime, and a "lone wolf" provision that allows people acting alone to be treated as if they were a foreign-sponsored spy or terrorist. Some starting resources to learn about the problems with these provisions: Senate minority report, an American Library Association statement on the matter, and statistics showing that the powers are overwhelmingly used in non-terrorism cases. There’s a lot more, but these are a good start.
This is a line in the sand for me, and I hope you will join me in declaring that. If a representative supported this extension, they will get not one dollar of my money, not one minute of my time, and not one ounce of my effort. If they vote against my interests and against the Constitution, they do not deserve to be in office.
