In the Senate, courtesy of the Office of the Majority Leader:
Well, that's what it says for today, anyway. There's an entry for tomorrow that says:
Convenes: 12:00 noon
Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and debate the nomination of Patricia Smith to be Solicitor for the Department of Labor. There will be up to 20 minutes for debate prior to a vote on confirmation on the nomination.
Upon disposition of the Smith nomination, the Senate will consider the nomination of Martha Johnson to be Administrator of the GSA, with 2 hours for debate equally divided and controlled between the Leaders or their designees. Upon the use or yielding back of time, the Senate will proceed to a cloture vote on the Johnson nomination. If cloture is invoked, all post-cloture debate time will be yielded back and the Senate would immediately proceed to vote on confirmation of the nomination.
And that looks an awful lot like what should have been the entry for today, since on Tuesday they were hoping that the Republicans wouldn't continue to be pricks and would yield back some of the post-cloture time on the Smith nomination, given that they'd lost, the writing was on the wall, and it was just a matter of hours until it was all over. But it seems wasting time is more important to them than anything, so they're pushing the Smith confirmation vote into Thursday instead. Because they love America so much and stuff.
The full committee schedule for the day, which isn't so full for the Senate, appears below. I wonder if the Republicans are even obstructing committee meetings now. Rule XXVI would appear a possible obstacle:
- (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of the rules, when the Senate is in session, no committee of the Senate or any subcommittee thereof may meet, without special leave, after the conclusion of the first two hours after the meeting of the Senate commenced and in no case after two o'clock postmeridian unless consent therefor has been obtained from the majority leader and the minority leader (or in the event of the absence of either of such leaders, from his designee). The prohibition contained in the preceding sentence shall not apply to the Committee on Appropriations or the Committee on the Budget.
...if the Republicans really wanted to make a mess of things. And all indications are that they do. I don't know that that's what's happening now. But I guess it could in the future if it isn't.
