Several times today in interviews on MSNBC, Susan Collins (R-Maine), has admitted that she, like many other Republicans to date, objected to the Bush Administration policy of treating terrorists like Richard Reid, et al, as "criminals" rather than enemy combatants. She objected then and now to the trials held in civilian rather than military courts.
Susan Collins OBJECTED! But Susan Collins also remained silent from 2001 until today because like her many Republican cohorts she chose party loyalty over the safety and welfare of the American people.
And for that, she should resign from her seat on the Homeland Security Committee if not from her position as Senator of Maine.
SHAME ON SUSAN COLLINS!
Every time one of these Republican Senators or Congressmen steps in front of a camera before the American public and condemns the Obama Administration's handling of the Christmas bomber or KSM and claims they opposed the same policy under Bush---but never spoke up--they should be called tro answer why they chose their party loyalty over the safety and welfare of the American people.
According to them, these trials present a clear and present danger to the American people and since the time of the Clinton Administration's trial of the Blind Sheik they have failed to speak up or act even though they had power in Congress!
Why every journalist or pundit or Democratic party official is not out there asking them why these cowards failed to speak up while Bush was in office---when they had control of Congress---and they failed to institute legislation in opposition of something they now find so abhorrent is beyond me.
But Collins and the Republicans are not alone in their duplicity. Jim Webb (D-Va) is said to be joining Blanche Lincolne (D-ARKANSAS) in legislation to prevent the Obama Administration's DOJ's ability to do what has been done---unchallenged--by past administrations. Funny, I don't remember Webb speaking out against these trials while running for office---especially interesting given that Moussawi was tried in Webb's state of Virginia. And does anyone have that YOUTUBE video or C-SPAN tape of Blancjhe Lincolne's condemnation for the Bush Administration trying Reid, Moussawi and approximately 240 other terrorists in civilian criminal courts?
It's time we all start doing what the party and press are failing to do. In Letters To The Editor or e-mails to your Senators and Congressmen, and even your favorite pundit/journo, let's start calling out all elected officials who claim opposition to the Bush Administration policy but chose loyalty to the Republican administration over the American people who they are elected to represent. Shame on them all!
