Sounds like a bad movie title, doesn't it? However, this storm is eerily like Kim Stanley Robinson's novels about climate change, the "Science in the Capital" series. It is comprised of three novels: "Forty Signs of Rain" (2004), "Fifty Degrees Below" (2005), and "Sixty Days and Counting" (2007).
I'm not posting this as an essay on global claimate change. I'm asking the Kossacks that are directly affected by the snowstorm of February 5-6, 2010 to post their stories and photos here. If you decide to particiapte, please indicate at least the general area where you live in your post.
For example, I live in the far eastern panhandle of West Virginia. I'm only about an hour's drive from Dulles International Airport and maybe 90 minutes drive from the District.
So far, we have been lucky. We have over two feet of snow, but our power is still on. We have been able to clear enough snow so we can let our dogs out in our fenced back yard and in an emergency, get a car out. I have no intention of going anywhere in this, and I'm from upstate Wisconsin.
A few photos:
This was taken at about 1200 on Feb 6. It is a shot of our platform bird feeder - a solid two feet of snow and it's still falling at a rate of better than an inch/hour.
Here is a shot of me clearing the driveway. This was taken at about 1000, Feb 6. This storm reminds me of the weather we used to get during winter in Green Bay, WI.
And last, here are our Shelties trying to make sense of snow deeper than they are tall.
So, what's your story?
