It's been speculated for many years that the GOP, while publicly decrying abortion and vowing to abolish it, never actually gets around to doing anything. Even during the Aughts when the GOP held sway in DC, there were never any serious bills put forward to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The cynical view is that the GOP only uses abortion to mobilize and motivate their right-wing religious element, and that if it went away there would be no reason to vote GOP anymore...
Can the same thing be said about the Dems and HCR?
...
I'm really beginning to wonder. Could that be the reason that the Dem caucus seems, at times, to be ambivalent about pushing hard on HCR? Are they going to let the GOP defeat it just so they can say, "We need more Dems in office to be able to make HCR happen. Vote for us and we promise that next session we'll get it done."
Sure it's a crappy strategy, but there's got to be something behind the "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" that I'm seeing.
Thanks for listening.
