The other day on Fox News, Sarah Palin mentioned that Obama could help his chances for re-election by declaring war on Iran. There's just one problem with that statement.
In a recent interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News, Sarah Palin said that Obama could change the political landscape in 2012 by "Playing the war card." If he declared war on Iran, that would help him win by showing how tough we can be on countries we don't like. There is just one problem with that statement, and to find it you can look in the United States Constitution:
Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 gives Congress the exclusive right to declare wars. The President may only ask them to do this.
This is not a little-known fact. Most children taking high school civics could probably get that right, but Ms. Palin forgot to write that fact on the palm of her hand. What is worse, absolutely no news outlets challenged her on this. Not the New York Times, the Washington Post, CBS, ABC or NBC. Republican lies just flow from the spin room to the tongues of politicians into the waiting minds of Fox News viewers hearing what they want to hear. I think Abraham Lincoln would be very surprised to see what his party has become.
