A very nice surprise came in the mail yesterday.
It was from my college.
It came in a large, flat, sturdy mailer.
Inside were my diplomas.
It's only taken me almost thirty years to get them. That is to say, I started pursuing a college education back in the early 1980s, while I was in the Navy. The college on base didn't work out for me, and it was some years later that I tried again. Then a divorce interrupted my college plans, and I more or less gave up.
But a couple of years ago I found myself seriously injured and unable to work, so I decided that I needed to finish (or gain, as it were) a college degree. Fortunately, there is a community college here in town where I live, and all my earlier course work counted for my general studies, so all I had to do was complete a major.
Turns out I completed two. I now have an Associate in Arts, General Studies: Social and Behavioral Sciences, and an Associate in Arts, Liberal Arts: Sociology and Behavioral Sciences, along with a Certificate of Completion, Working With Children in the Justice System.
Of course you know, this only means that now I have to go back to work.
I can't stick around for comments this morning, but I felt so good about this that I wanted to share it with you.
Hope everyone's day goes well.
Best regards,
Forrest
