There is still some pretty deep denial in the Nuttersphere over HCR. It looks to me like they're almost as mad that Obama and Pelosi refused to be told they lost as they are at the prospect of any of the doomsday scenarios they pretend are about to happen.
But there's a few pretty predictable moves that they make and we're all familiar with them.
Lying, false memes, conspiracy theories, doomsday scenarios, concern trolling, selectively denying science or other neutral facts like CBO reports, and tactically say anything to contradict whatever good is being said even if it creates a contradiction with something else (just use a different Republican).
Here are a few I haven't heard yet. Tell me yours, who you think will say them (or what kind of figure), and when we'll hear them.
* Deny that this is an historic achievement, suggest it's just a minor reform of the current system. I predict this will be said by someone quasi-wonkish to someone in the MSM, because, obviously, it undermines the need for the freak out going on elsewhere. ("It's not the biggest thing since Medicare, it's the biggest thing since Senator Landrieu passed a resolution congratulating the Saints on their Super Bowl victory.") Something like that.
* Bring forward some worker who claimed he was laid off because the company projected they would have to close their plant/store/operation and move their jobs to Somalia where there's no health care. This is probably a more Fox News type situation.
* Explain that it is very "Bush-like" because Bush pushed so hard for Medicare Part D. This continues their pattern of using Bush as a two edged sword (very clever) it makes Democrats think it sucks and Republicans feel like their guy was smarter. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like David Brooks says this.
* Claim that "liberals hate it" because it's not single payer. (Thanks, Jane.) Those polls saying 80ish percent of Dems like it? Polls are lies.
and my personal favorite:
* No big law (now it's a big law again) has ever been voted in with "only" 216 votes. Some Democrat somewhere waited for a special election or something to get everyone back. This is a Limbaugh kind of thing, but maybe Boehner on the floor?
Please let me know if any of these has already been done, and, again let me hear yours.
UPDATE: I have another prediction, but it's not really a talking point. I think Boehner's time as minority leader is up if this passes.
UPDATE 2: OK, that's it folks. I'm going to go do some reading and then see how much Ambien it takes for me to get to sleep on a night like this. Being a political junkie is tough! Hopefully when I wake up there is good news.
