Just out of curiosity, though it has killed the cat more than once, is this liberal, progressive audience at Daily Kos pro or against the idea of Big Brother? During the Bush years, I was under the impression that this was a real fear, from the Patriot Act, illegal rendition, secret or military trials, and remember DARPA's Total Information Awareness program?
Why aren't these real issues being discussed anymore? well, at least on this side of the political spectrum? Just because we are in power, we now trust our government (now and in the future) with these powers that we once thought were unconstitutional, illegal, and just plain wrong?
I would think, at minimum, strong privacy legislation is in order, including private business, government, and everything in between. In this modern age of nearly unlimited storage, can't we all see the necessity of privacy legislation, where the individual owns his information, and not the collector?
MySpace (News Corp aka Murdoch) recently decided to begin selling off user data at MySpace. If this isn't a clear enough sign that the individual does not own their own information, what is? Will AT&T using our cell phone's location history to direct target us Ads do it? Credit Cards? Computers?
Well, maybe I had the wrong impression, or maybe my views differ slightly from this crowd, but are you pro or against the idea of Big Brother?
