I would like to thank every single one of you who worked to pass healthcare reform, whether it was calling your representatives, talking to your neighbors, writing letters to the editor of your local papers, and any other actions you took to make it happen.
I am grateful that you were able to bring the day where we took the first step in providing healthcare for those who need it. We will improve this bill over time until we can say without hesitation that we have truly universal healthcare.
I would also like to apologize for sitting on the sidelines during the whole healthcare debate. I got lazy. I got engaged. I started a family with my fiancee and our two feline children. It pretty much just left my mind, although of course I hoped that the healthcare bill would pass and ultimately become law.
I made phone calls and knocked on doors during the Obama campaign and worked my heart out to make sure that he got elected. I know the importance of grassroots activities and organizing to making change. If the healthcare bill died, I would've blamed myself.
I would like to redeem myself by joining you on the front lines of immigration reform. I may not be able to dedicate as much time as I did during the campaign now that I have a family to support and will be starting grad school within the next year. However, I will contribute, since there is no excuse not to. Doing the right thing for those who are living in the shadows while watching teabagger heads explode is simply too good of an opportunity to miss!
Again, thank you for your superb work in making this happen. The political pendulum is swinging our way, so let's continue to work to pass as much legislation as possible that will help people and make our country a little more just every time.
