For fun this afternoon, I went to go look at the rnc website to see what they were saying, and their message could not be more clear.
The front page shows Nancy Pelosi in flames, with the message "Fire Nancy Pelosi."

I think we get the subliminal message. It is pretty scary.
This message just confirms the sense I have that the Republican perspective on health care reform is to prevent women and poor people from exercising the power they would gain by being freed from having to worry about health insurance and access to health care for themselves and their children.
How many people work at low-paying jobs they hate just because of the insurance. This bill is, I believe, a step in the right direction in that it sets some floors and moral guidelines which will allow people to have more choices. I believe this could unleash the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in this country like nothing we have seen.
Unfortunately, the Republicans seem to resent the possibility that poor people, and especially women, may be freed from economic domination. I think Nancy Pelosi represents to them this possibility of women's empowerment.
What if poor people could say no to bad working conditions? What if women could afford to work part time because they had alternatives for access to health care for themselves and their children?
I'm not saying this new law is perfect. I would prefer a system more like Canada's. But this definitely feels like a very good first step in a good direction.
The whole issue of money and cost the Republicans raise is bogus, because, as the Gov. of Washington said in the good clip provided in another diary here, we are paying for all of this one way or another anyway. This bill addresses a moral issue. It is about access, and not about cost. Yes, cost is and huge, huge problem that must be addressed. But this bill is about fairness and about the greater good.
It is a good day. And I do think most of my Republican and Teabag friends are going to be happy with it. Eventually. But the rage and thinly veiled violence of the rnc website is scary and really shouldn't be ignored either. I attempted to save a screenshot, but not sure if it worked. Maybe the Pelosi in flames image will not last long, and someone will think to take it down before too long. The messages they are sending get scarier and scarier.
