Americans ecstatic about what is being represented as a "Earth shattering" victory are neglecting the basic questions they all should be asking about the proposed health insurance reform.
We all should spend some quality time learning about healthcare around the world, and how ours differs. And discussing it. Despite the pressure to conform to the "conventional wisdom" that insurance mandate is the best we could ever expect.
The lizard people in ABC's "V" series offer - of all things, universal healthcare! The series seems to have disturbing parallels to the extreme media control exerted by the pro-insurance Obama administration. Not many want to question the media barrage, after all, who needs affordable healthcare when you have reassuring messages that "yes we can" afford unsubsidized private insurance, unaffordable to Americans since the 90s.
My advice to people. Gain some perspective on the rest of the world. See what's going on in Canada, the UK, Australia.
The fact is, Americans cannot afford the administration's private insurance model. Its designed to leave sick people without care, to dump them, because it doesn't include curative care without extra cost, so it can siphon off huge amounts of money to investors of some kind. Curative care should be included 100% for people who are enrolled. No extra costs to dump the sick.
Why the preservation of the caste system? Why the media quarantine on single payer? Why the extra cost-sharing (or extortion) that difficult hoop they ask the sick to jump through that so many can't handle. Why the costs that we already know from COBRA won't be affordable to a huge number of people, even with subsidies. Has that money
already been promised to someone? Has it already been spent?
But their hidden, (free trade agreement) GATS-centric agenda, and the huge waste (profit to some) will make real affordable healthcare in the USA impossible.
It's going to mean a lot of people who might otherwise be able to afford healthcare won't.
WHY?
