For years, "Waterloo" by ABBA, reminded me of "Watergate Summer", when Republicans had to watch their hero, Richard Nixon, depart office with his tail between his legs. A classic from the summer of '74.
Now, this song will always be associated with Jim "Gomer Pyle" DeMint and his Republican cronies and Insurance Company clients that tried and failed to deny health care coverage to millions of American citizens.
Kind of an appropriate set of "GOP Bookends", between these two periods. Don't ya think?
Congratulations President Obama and Speaker Pelosi! Yes!
Waterloo (Revised Version, 2010)
My my, at Waterloo Republicans did surrender
Oh yeah, and they will meet their destiny in quite a similar way
The history book on the shelf
Is always repeating itself
Waterloo – They were defeated, we won the war
Waterloo – They promise to hate us forever more
Waterloo – Couldn’t escape if they wanted to
Waterloo – Making up lies is just what they do
Waterloo - Finally facing their Waterloo
My my, they tried to hold us back but we were stronger
Oh yeah, and now it seems their only chance is to incite the right
And now they’ve decided to sue
No grace and no class when they lose
Waterloo – They were defeated, we won the war
Waterloo – They promise to hate us forever more
Waterloo – Making up lies is just what they do
Waterloo – Finally facing their Waterloo
And now they’ve decided to sue
No grace and no class when they lose
Waterloo – DeMint can go fishing, we won the war
Waterloo – Limbaugh is moving to warmer shores
Waterloo – Beck is a man with a screw that’s loose
Waterloo – Taking their tea with a bag or two
Waterloo - Finally facing their Waterloo
