Many folks, who now call themselves tea baggers, feel they have to keep America from being dragged towards "socialism". A catchall phrase used to cover anything, which seeks to undermine free markets, the profit motive, and rugged individualism.
Unfortunately for these guys, socialism is most likely well entrenched in their town because most towns in this country have an institution based on collective ownership, sharing goods - which you normally have to pay money to obtain - for free, and is free for anyone in the town to use: the local Public Library.
Yes, public libraries are - I must say after careful and lengthy deliberation - the incubators of socialism in America.
Who owns the library? Why all the towns folks.
What do you pay to use the library? Nothing, if you live in the town.
What does it cost to check out books? Absolutely nothing, you just have to remember to give it back, when you are done reading it.
I really feel sorry for the teabaggers, Glenn Beck, and all the other anti-socialists in our country, because for all their fervor they are aiming at the wrong targets.
To root out socialism, you need to start with the place most Americans first get introduced to the concept: the local Public Library. Most parents, I bet even Glenn Beck listeners with kids, use the public library to encourage their kids to read because they have plenty of books and those books are free.
I wonder if they realize how much money libraries suck out of the economy? I've read dozens of books, which would've cost me hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars over the years to buy for free by using my library. My library now allows me to check out DVD's and CD's, taking much needed money from video rental stores and the recording industry, which is failing to adept to the digital age.
I think we need to inform tea baggers, Fox News commentators, et. al., who really want to defeat socialism in America, that they need to change the target of their ire away from imagined socialist conspiracies which they try to adjoin the Obama Administration and focus on dismantling the living, breathing embodiment of socialism in our country: their local Public Libraries.
