Elections have consequences. For the past year+ since the election of Barack Obama you have been been screaming as if our country had been invaded by some freakish alien horde. Well, fellow citizens, there was no invasion, only the turning back of the freakish excesses that you are putting fully on display.
Get this very simple notion through your heads. You are NOT in charge. You don't get to dictate to the American People what the agenda is. You lost that right completely in the last 2 elections. You lost that pulpit in the election of the President. You have a choice now, you can either play your part as the "loyal opposition", with the dedication to doing what is best for the Country or you can continue your infantile antics. if you continue to choose the later, you will become as irrelevant to the business of the country as that 2 year old you're playing.
During the entire year of the debate around health care, you failed in your obligation as lawmakers to engage in the process. You simply slammed on the ground, screaming at the top of your lungs flailing your
arms just like a 2 year old. Your simple refrain, "NO!". At every juncture during this debate, you were non cooperative. What amendments offered were largely obstructive.
You complain that this was "rammed down your throats". I beg to differ. This process was largely transparent and where it wasn't it could be said that you are mad because it wasn't you in the driver's
seat. You were afforded every opportunity to work with Democrats to influence this bill and I suggest that the fact that the bill is so complex is because of the accommodations made to conservatives and
Republicans. This is what you're really upset about, its that you're not in power. Never mind what is best for the country, its that you're not getting to call the shots.
How ironic that the Health Car LAW that is now passed is in deed modeled on REPUBLICAN proposals made during the last major effort at Health Care Reform during the Clinton era as well as the enacted legislation in Massachusetts by then REPUBLICAN governor Mitt Romney. Does that get your craw? Well, if it make you feel any better, I don't like it either. For you see, if it were simply up to Democrats, we wouldn't have wasted our time trying for a bi-partisan solution that tried to preserve what we feel is a fatally flawed system of for profit health insurance. You see, we would have scrapped the whole system and instituted a Single Payer Insurance system. But, since nothing is ever simple and in major concessions to the Republican party, we chose this path. But your caucus in the face of this push decided on a fool hardy path of trying to destroy the President and therefore, you abdicated your responsibilities to participate in the legislative process.
Your continued choice to foment civil unrest is fool hardy and you should be warned that you have an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. If you continue to characterize
this President as illegitimate, to suggest that the passage of health care is some how unconstitutional, when it followed to the letter the rules of the house and senate then you put yourselves at peril of constitutional consequences.
In this day and age, you can no longer foment lies, and deliberate misinformation about Health Care, or even the role of government without consequence. You're lies will be instantly fact checked. Your false
rage is exposed for what it is, a mockery of democracy. Your Rovian tactics will be laid bare for their cynical and useless cheap shots.
Finally, as we Democrats are proving, that competent effective and responsible Government is the partner of the citizenry and not the problem as your postulate. The President's initiative to modernize, and make more responsive the machinery of Government, and our military are at complete odds with the grotesque and cynical way that Government was managed in the previous administration.
