. . . and a Twinkie and a can of Tab (shamelessly stolen from MAD Magazine).
News reports on the Republican-tea party poster depicting President Obama as The Joker, Nancy Pelosi as Cruella de Ville, etc. also contain a glaring, pro-WASPy and anti-ethnic error (see below).
Note the quotes below:
The memo also makes fun of major RNC donors, categorizing some as "ego-driven" and easily pacified with "tchochkes" (a Slavic word for toys).
Now, I suppose that "tchochkes" has roots in some Slavic language (although there is no current language known as "Slavic"), but its use in English comes from Yiddish. It means little tokens, like beads for the natives or bits of "bubkes" (another good Yiddish word) for your in-laws during Chanukah, costume jewelry, knick-knacks, etc.
Interestingly the Republicans probably used it correctly but the news people didn't. Too much tribal isolation, too many "internships" and not enough real blue-collar jobs when young, so they don't know anything but their own backgrounds and jargon.
It's enough to make you hurl. Or kvetch.
